Congratulations to the City of Lynn, named one of three recipients of the Massachusetts Housing Partnership’s 2026 Housing Hero Award. MHP will present the awards on June 26 at its 19th Housing Institute at the DCU Center in Worcester, where Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities Secretary Juana Matias will recognize Mayor Jared Nicholson and the city alongside fellow honorees. In announcing the award, MHP pointed to the many ways Lynn has moved to address its housing shortage:
Over the past few years, the City of Lynn has taken on a multifaceted approach to tackle the housing shortage, including the implementation of Housing Lynn, the City’s Housing Production Plan; comprehensively modernizing the City’s zoning code to unlock housing production; maintaining strong local coalitions; leveraging public land and funds to reduce the cost of development; and establishing a Municipal Affordable Housing Trust Fund to increase the City’s affordable housing stock.

We were proud to help with the comprehensive zoning code rewrite, replacing a 1925 ordinance with modern standards aligned to the Vision Lynn comprehensive plan and to state law. After an extensive public process, the City Council adopted the new code by a unanimous vote in 2025, clearing the way for balanced housing and commercial growth across the city.

Congratulations to Mayor Nicholson, city staff, and everyone in Lynn on a recognition that is well earned.

On accepting the MHP Housing Heroes Award
“We want to thank everyone. There’s a continued urgency for us to press forward and create those units, to get roofs over people’s heads, and allow folks to thrive and contribute, because that’s what makes our community great. We’re proud to do it. Thank you so much for all this recognition.”
