Central Indiana Regional Housing Study

Communities across the Indianapolis metropolitan area needed a shared, current picture of their housing landscape to plan and collaborate more effectively. Working in partnership with Stantec Urban Places, CommunityScale completed a regional housing study spanning the eight-county jurisdiction of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization, combining a housing market investigation, needs assessment, and gap analysis. The team leveraged big data sources and machine learning techniques to surface challenges and opportunities across the metro area, presenting findings in formats designed to support better and more collaborative planning and policy development for the region’s many distinct communities.

Launched while working at Stantec, CommunityScale is partnered with Stantec Urban Places to complete a regional housing study that includes housing market investigation, needs assessment, and gap analysis to provide communities and stakeholders across the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization’s 8-county jurisdiction with current context and insights for better and more collaborative planning and policy development.

The project leverages big data sources and machine learning techniques to identify challenges and opportunities across the metro area’s housing landscape and present findings at the regional and county levels of detail.

The product of this work will be presented as the first critical step for the IMPO in a new role as a regional leader for housing policy discourse, planning, technical assistance, and policy innovation.
